Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes
  • 1 can 15 oz black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can 15 oz kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can 15 oz corn, drained
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet or dark
  • Chopped fresh cilantro and sour cream for garnish optional

Instructions:

Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until it is cooked through

After removing any excess fat, add the beef to your slow cooker

Add the minced garlic and diced onion to the crock pot after sauting them in the same skillet until they are soft

To the crock pot, add the diced sweet potatoes, diced tomatoes with their juices, kidney beans, black beans, and corn

Combine the ground cumin, chili powder, cocoa powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl

Stir to mix after sprinkling the ingredients in the crock pot with this spice mixture

Transfer the beef broth into the slow cooker and thoroughly mix it once more

Once the flavors have blended and the sweet potatoes are soft, cook them in your crock pot on low for 6 to 8 hours

Add the chocolate chips to the chili and stir until they melt completely, about half an hour before serving

Serve hot, topped with a dollop of sour cream and chopped fresh cilantro, if preferred
